Balancing Roles: Navigating Life's Stage as a Woman

As I stand front and centre on the stage of life, the spotlight shines on the myriad roles I play as a woman. The script of my life seems to grow exponentially complex, with each new chapter.

The chapter of marriage unfolds and brings with it a vast new family ensemble. Transitioning from a daughter to a daughter-in-law, from a sister to a sister-in-law, the dynamics shift, and the expectations blossom. The list of to-dos lengthens, accompanied by a contrasting set of to-don'ts.

Becoming a mother opens the chest of a whole new set of emotions and a new list of non-negotiable agenda items. It's a delicate dance, learning the steps of this new role while maintaining a sense of self within; is an intricate choreography of familial expectations.

Even beyond the home front, the workplace crafts its unique performances for women. Unwritten tasks like emceeing office events and being the designated restaurant booker often fall on our shoulders. At times religiously pushing the feedback forms at the restaurant to female colleagues sends a deafening message in a silent mode. Amongst this elaborate act, as the curtains close on maternity leave, a new act begins, demanding a seamless segue back into work responsibilities while nurturing an infant. The world beckons for results and efficiency, yet parenthood obliges undivided attention. Balancing spreadsheets with breastfeeding, financial models with weaning, and emails with potty training, the act of juggling becomes an art form in itself.

In this whirlwind of roles, it's effortless to lose sight of who we truly are. Beneath the layers of obligations and predetermined scripts, our innate qualities, desires, and dreams risk fading into the backdrop. Yet, in this dissonance of narratives, there exists a sanctuary where all role-plays evaporate —a place where I can simply be me. Guessing where this wonderful oasis is?

It's the bathroom—a temporary escape, though the ticking clock reminds us of the multitudes awaiting outside its solace!

However, there's another haven, a place where my authenticity flourishes unrestricted—a circle of friends. Here, in the mix of laughter and shared stories, I shed the layers of performance and emerge as my unfiltered self. In their presence, no scripts are necessary, no roles to embody—just pure, unadulterated camaraderie, free from judgment or unsolicited advice.

The realization dawns upon me that amidst the cacophony of traditional expectations and personal responsibilities, preserving our identity and nurturing our essence is not just a "nice to have". Balancing the act between fulfilling societal and professional roles and safeguarding our individuality is a delicate art. After all, each role we play is only a small part of the multifaceted soul we have.

So, as we tread the boards of life's grand theatre, may we stand tall, embracing each role with grace yet holding firm to the core of our true selves. Let us pledge to be there for each other. To listen, help, and support from the mist of background. To take immense joy and pride in making each other achieve our precious life goals! Cheers to us!

It's so true - we keep trying to be successful in roles that work/family/society puts on us. By the time we start to wonder where "ourself" is in all this, the best years of our life have passed! Love the part on balancing work and emails with breastfeeding and potty training. 😂.
